On a music note this week: I'm obsessed with the lyrics of "Run"; and for that matter, everything about Hozier. Ya'll should go check out his music if you haven't already.
I have been listening to his album for some time now, and I still can't get over the quality of it! I wake up to "Jackie and Wilson" or "Someone New" almost every morning and stay up late listening to "Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene" or "From Eden". This probably happens way more often than it should on school nights, but what can i do?
Anyway, I just wanted to share how perfectly this album encompasses life. Hozier has got everything right--
Also, I am super pumped for how nice and sunny the past few days have been. I love spring time, and I can't wait for summer. Next week I hope to post some spring/summer fashion outfit ideas, so keep a look out for those. I wish you all a happy rest of your week!

S H O U T O U T

Flower-patterned pants:
Because I don't do colors.
Because I dress weird.
Because I'm short.

- Because my brother hates them.

I love Tuesdays. I had such a great time at today's fashion show casting and afterward; getting some fun shots with Danibear.

I'm very thankful for such a great crew who attended the casting by my side. I appreciate every single one of you ladies. You are all beautiful and you definitely made my day!
I also want to send a shout-out to the Negative Nancy's out there who question and judge others on the daily. Keep it up--because talented people would lack so much motivation without ya'll. Much love.
Lastly, Happy Birthday to one of my dearest friends, who was one of the first on board when I started my my blog. Hannah, I hope today and the rest of your life is as wonderful as you are. I <3 you.

                                     - - - - s m i l e - - - -

When I was around 9 years old my uncle taught me how to draw a horse. My aunt and uncle were both painters and were teaching my cousin, Fer, how to draw. I was sleeping over at their house in the city; so they invited me to the drawing lesson. When I picked up the pencil with which I drew my first horse, my life was forever changed. That was the day I fell in love with art.

I don't know if anyone can relate, but sometimes I wonder why I do the things I do. Why I post thoughts on a blog, or why I like fashion, when some people just don't get it.                                  - - - - - And then it clicks. All those things make me smile

Regardless of all the weird looks I get, art makes me smile. I think of the day that I fell in love, and I realize what drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, theatre and fashion mean to me today.

<< Art shaped me. So I shall continue to do what I love & continue to smile.

P O S I T I V I T Y

Late post, but here's my reasoning; I am trying to avoid getting sick, so this morning I went to class all medicined-out, it was rather comical because I was so tired. After getting home and eating lunch I immediately passed out. I just woke up from a glorious nap (thanks to all of my friends who kept buzzing my phone) and came to the library to attempt to get work done. Of course, instead, I find myself trying to blog. I just have one simple, but powerful thought tonight: be positive.

Over the weekend I realized how important it is to have a positive attitude towards everything in this life. I know that it is hard trying to be happy about something or someone who has failed you in the past, but there should always be a second, third and forth chance. You can't shut yourself down after one or even several mistakes. People are not perfect, we all have our flaws; those makes us unique. We have to consider all the wonderful things that we face, instead of the bad. Positive thinking evokes energy, initiative, and happiness.

I think that each of us can find happiness when we admit and apologize for our mistakes, but we also can feel better when giving someone a second chance. So give someone or something a second chance. That may be someone special to you, or something as simple as a class lecture or reading. Give working-out another shot, and don't give up. There is never a good enough reason to give up on something good, just do it!! I heard a beautiful talk on Sunday, where a young woman mentioned that we all go through trials and hardships, and she promised "things will get worse," and they will. But you have to remember the goodness that will prevail. The trials and mistakes that we encounter cultivate qualities in us that shape and influence who we can become.

Always stay positive friends. ThinkDo and Be positive.
Believe in yourself a little more and give it a go.

Positive mind.
Positive vibes.
Positive life.

The fool who thought she could dance

I was looking through my Twitter account to find that most of my tweets consist of hilarious stories that are hard to tell in under 140 characters, so today I'll share one from two years ago.

Wednesday Oct. 10, 2012. The day of the auditions for the student choreographed show at WWCC.

I had only known my roommates for a month and a half. Danielle, super serious, quiet, chemistry major; and Kiley, an elementary education major.. also super quiet and focused. Even though I had barely learned to interact with my bunk-mates, I invited them to join me for dance auditions. Neither had any experience in modern dance or auditions in general, but as a tech major I did not want to attend auditions alone facing all of the theatre and dance majors who had been performing since the start of the semester. Both Dani and Kiley were horrified by the idea of the auditions, and neither wanted to accompany me; however, after 30 minutes of begging, brave  Danielle agreed to attend and Kiley (intelligent enough) bailed out of the operation.

Here's the series of events accurately told through Danielle's eyes:

I don't know how or why I ever did because the events that followed were humiliating. We went to the sign in table then walked in to the studio.  There are a bunch of dance majors going all out, being focused on their warm ups and stretches. I felt out of place from the start because I didn’t have any dance shoes. I was sporting basketball shorts, a tee and some tennies.

I strategically placed myself toward the back of the room in hopes that I wouldn’t stick out more than I already was. We went through the motions. 5, 6, 7, 8. Lots of counting nonsense. Rolling on the ground, kicks, leaps that i couldn't do; awkward stuff. But I didn’t care. I wasn’t going to make the cut anyway. I was only there for Isabel. That’s it. After this we were getting out of there never to come back.

But wait. They split us up into groups of 4 and said each group would perform by themselves in front of the judges so they could get a better look at everyone to pick out who they wanted for their pieces. Mine and Isabel’s eyes got wide and we wanted to get out of there so quick. Isabel went to the lady in charge and told her that we had a class to get to so we wouldn’t be able to stay any longer. What a great plan! However, it backfired. The lady practically begged us to stay. She even said she would call her teacher to tell them that Isabel would be late because she was doing a dance try out. We were stuck. Darn. So I watched the groups as I waited for our group’s turn.

When our group walked out to the middle of the room facing the judges I felt I felt like all eyes were on me, and probably most were. I was so out of my element and looked nothing like a dancer. All of a sudden, I catch one of the judge’s eyes staring right at me. She turns to another judge and says “Do you think we should ask her to take off her tennis shoes?” Then the other lady turns to look at me, thinks for a couple seconds and says, “Nah, I think it’s alright.” In my mind I was thinking, “Are you kidding me? Take my shoes off?! Look at me. I look like I lost my way to basketball practice and ended up at a dance tryout! I’m pretty sure that even if I took my shoes off it wouldn’t make much difference. I would still be the worst one here.”

So anyway, the music starts and so do the dancers. Since I hadn’t put much effort into memorizing any of the moves before, I decided I better just watch the others in my group. And then as the music went on my group members got off from each other in timing. I didn’t know who to watch because I didn’t know who was right. I’m pretty sure I just kept switching who I was following, so if you had just been watching me it would look like a jerky dance where the moves didn’t flow well at all.

Finally our group was done. Isabel’s group was next. They went and did pretty well. Even if they were off a little bit you could tell that they all had previous dancing experience. As soon as her group was finished, we grabbed our belongings and hustled out of there never to return. After that whenever I saw someone in the hallway who also was at the tryouts I felt embarrassed. Did they remember me? The fool who thought she could dance. Did they think I was being serious about it? Some questions will never be answered. But regardless, it makes a great story to tell. And that’s what I’m all about. Giving the people something to laugh about. I learned something that day: Never let someone who barely knows you drag you into something you know you can’t do… but if you must, at least try to remember it and share the funny experience with your kids.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So in conclusion, take this story and Danielle's advice to avoid being dragged your friends to awful auditions unless you're prepared to be best friends forever.

                 S T Y L E  &  B E A U T Y   M A S T E R M I N D S

Hope you all are having a superb Tuesday. Today, I realized that I love sharing my thoughts and experiences; yet I have never shared the role models who drive my everyday motives. I am so grateful for being able to source inspiration from some of the best fashion and beauty gurus of our time. I hope that you can too after this:

  • Lauren Curtis, Chloe Morello, and Carli Bybel are the absolute youtube beauty queens to say the least; go to them for any beauty advice.
  • Jade Seba is a Brazilian actress and blogger whose style is to die for.
  • Finally, Kristina Bazan is a creative genius --model, stylist, and creative director (founder of Kayture)--  embodying  European elegance.

These ladies are clearly doing something right; they are all so young and have already gained the love & respect of hundreds of thousands around the world! I can't tell you any more. You need to admire these beautiful masterminds out on your own and share what you think.

P.S. My thoughts and ideas this week are off the walls. I cannot even begin to explain all the things I want to do in the near future; for now just be patient w/ me.

o c e a n s o u l

Greetings!  I hope everyone's first few days of class are going great. Getting back into a good rhythm is the hardest part after coming back from a long break, so I wish everyone luck picking up the pace. This week, in honor of the 50 degree weather we are lucky to have in Laramie (especially during the month of January), I am sharing a few photographs I took at the beautiful Santa Monica beach over the break. Now that I have my camera back I hope to be doing more photography. >>
I encourage anyone interested in modeling or helping me shoot to contact me.                Enjoy (:

I love these pictures because a day a the beach is the most enjoyable feeling. Not to mention the great company of my brothers. We love soaking our feet in the salty water of the ocean and feeling the texture of the sand in our toes. The Oceansouls.

So take me back to the beach.. <3

Welcome to the newest version of my online blog mango is moda!  First of all I just want to throw out that I am so thankful for all the blessings that 2014 brought to my life; I made many memories with friends and family that are going to be impossible to replace. However, with the end of my winter break soon approaching, I am finally ready to leave all my thoughts and aspirations behind (momentarily) and focus on now. 2015 is going to be all about becoming fresh and vigorous again; to revive my physical and spiritual self.

A late toast to 2015, because with ice cream and white wine (as I told you Joseph) I will continue to celebrate my accomplishments as well as my deep sorrows. On this beautiful Tuesday afternoon I can't help but think that my UW peers are doing nothing but relaxing and preparing to start a new semester. And as I paid a quick visit to my UCCS friends this morning on their first day of class, I know that everyone is ready for progress and prosperity. **I want to remind you all that we have so much potential! Keep up your good habits this year, and make it a goal to refresh with me: Rest, eat well, and exercise often to stimulate your mind and body.
Lastly, to everyone who has been reading my hardly updated blog, I'm sending much love and good vibes your way.
